
According to a report on enforcement of the rights of disabled persons submitted in the Supreme Court by the Sindh government, the province received Rs6.66 billion in five years.
The report states that initially 2.0 per cent job quota was fixed for disabled persons, which has now been enhanced to 5.0 per cent with effect from August 11.
Currently, 573 disabled persons are working in different departments from grade BS-01 to BS-17.
It is also informed that the total sanctioned strength for initial appointments in BS-01 to BS-17 in the departments is 141,273 while total working strength is 103,055.
Total vacant positions for initial appointments is 38,218, while only 573 disabled persons are working.
The Sindh government has assured that it is committed to implement 5.0 per cent quota of disabled persons in letter and spirit.
Likewise, the province constituted a committee for the recruitment of disabled persons wherein 4,000 applications of disabled persons were received while 224 persons had been approved for different appointments.
The government of Sindh has established 50 special education and rehabilitation centres at district and divisional levels, while 18 centres for multiple handicapped children.
It is also informed that after the promulgation of the Sindh Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2018, the new department namely ‘Differently-able Persons (Employment, Rehabilitation and Welfare Department)’ has been established.
