ISLAMABAD: Information technology firms based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw a huge potential in information and communications technology (ICT) talent of Pakistani youth as they hired 14 engineers at the first-ever job fair held under the Talent Development Programme on Monday.

Huawei ICT Academy hosted the job fair in a bid to utilise Pakistan’s ICT talent across the globe. In the second phase, Pakistani youth would be selected to work in other Gulf countries like Bahrain, Qatar and Oman.

Four partners of Huawei Middle East - China Communication Services Corporation Limited, Enterprise System UAE, Redington Gulf and CMC Pakistan - interviewed over 150 candidates in order to offer them technical jobs in the UAE.

Enterprise System Technical Head Hamid Ali Khan told The Express Tribune that Pakistani youth had a huge potential in the field of IT. He said they had hired three engineers who would work in the UAE, adding that nine out of the 12 engineers working in his company were from Pakistan.

He said they needed more people and had shortlisted some more engineers from Pakistan who would be hired for future projects. “The job fair has provided an opportunity to hire IT manpower from Pakistan,” he remarked.

Representatives of other UAE-based firms also said they had shortlisted some more candidates for future projects in the UAE. They believe Pakistani youth has talent, that’s why they are hiring them for IT projects.
