The interim bail of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and sister Faryal Talpur was extended by a banking court on Monday in a case pertaining to money laundering of billions through fake bank accounts, Express News reported.

The senior PPP leadership, Omni Group’s Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed, former Pakistan Stock Exchange chairperson Hussain Lawai, Summit Bank Senior Vice-President Taha Raza are among those being investigated by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for alleged money laundering through at least 29 fake accounts.

During the hearing, the investigating officer presented a report on absconding suspects as Zardari, Majeed and his sons and Taha appeared before the court.

Hearing of the case has been adjourned till December 21.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court (SC) took notice of the case and instructed authorities to expedite the investigation. The Sindh government has repeatedly come under fire for lack of cooperation with the joint investigation team probing the matter.
