Jirga stresses border fencing

The president says ending tribal skirmishes is the top priority of the jirga

QUETTA: Pashtun Tribal Jirga President Haji Behram Khan Achakzai has said fencing of Pakistan-Afghanistan border is necessary to curb terrorism in the country.

Addressing a press conference at Quetta Press Club on Sunday, he said the fencing will also help in overcoming the foreign influence in the country.

In this process, Achakzai said the government must ensure the provision of compensation in lieu of the land of Achakzai Tribe that is being utilised by the authority for fencing purposes across and inside the border.

The president said that ending tribal skirmishes is the top priority of the Jirga.

“The complete fencing of the border may affect the communication among people across the border. Thereby, the government must install a gate, so that the people of the area can meet their relatives conveniently,” he added.



He said that the tribal people have played significant role in the establishment of Pakistan.
Speaking on the development plans, he said the establishment of economic zone in Chaman can reduce the unemployment ratio in the province.

Other members of the jirga were also present on the occasion.
