KARACHI: Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood expressed concern in a meeting with business community over the quality of imported food products and stressed that the government would only allow good quality, healthy, safe and halal food into the country and those violating the requirements would be dealt with strictly. A consultative session was convened by the Ministry of Commerce in the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Karachi wherein the adviser met with the stakeholders concerned from the business community. The aim of the meeting was to seek input of food manufacturers, importers and exporters and their recommendations, which would be considered by the Commerce Division for proposed amendments to the import policy. The adviser added that the government desired to facilitate the exporters in order to widen the country’s export base and reduce the current account deficit as well as reliance on foreign financial assistance.
