I was wrong and I'm truly sorry: TheCut's writer apologises to Priyanka Chopra
Article was quickly circulated on the social media with celebrities slamming the publication for the distasteful piece
After The Cut published, and later pulled down, a sexist and controversial article in which Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra was called a 'global scam artist' for her wedding to American singer Nick Jonas, many came out to support the newlyweds and blasted the piece, calling out its writer Mariah Smith.
And now Smith has taken to Twitter to apologise for her actions. Incidentally, her apology comes after The Cut itself took down said article and issued an apology to its readers.
Mariah tweeted, “I want to sincerely apologise to Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, and to the readers, I offended and hurt with my words. I do not condone racism, xenophobia, or sexism. I take full responsibility for what I wrote, and I was wrong. I am truly sorry.”
"Upon further editorial review, we found this story did not meet our standards. We’ve removed it and apologise," the publication's statement read.
The article was quickly circulated on the net and celebrities took to social media to slam the publication for the distasteful piece.
Priyanka’s in-laws and international celebs Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner called the article disgusting, with Joe even tweeting, “This is disgusting. The Cut should be ashamed to have someone write such evil words. What Nick and Pri have is beautiful love. Thank u, Next.”
Other than them, Bollywood stars Swara Bhasker and Sonam Kapoor branded the article shameful.
Sonam tweeted, "For a publication that ‘shows women what they are made of’, TheCut has a lot to answer for. The article on Priyanka was sexist, racist and disgusting. Also, it’s written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness. Mariah, shame on you.”
Now, according to Pinkvilla, Priyanka's mother, Madhu Chopra has shared her two cents about it and said said, “It is a happy phase for our family, and we don't want to be disturbed by such idiotic things. I am happy that my daughter is married to someone she truly loves. I don't want to give publicity to those fools. There are some donkeys who do anything they feel like, but their actions don't affect us.”
Priyanka and Nick tied the knot in a Christian wedding on December 1, which was followed by a Hindu wedding on December 2.
