Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas' love life have always come under the radar. When the two announced their engagement in August this year, many trolled the Bollywood star for being in a relationship with a man much younger than her. But ignoring all the haters, the couple recently tied the knot in a lavish wedding in Jodhpur.

Like all other publications, The New York Mag's TheCut also discussed Priyanka and Nick's wedding. However, the journalist called the Bajirao Mastani star "a global scam artist who tricked young Nick, 26, into a lifelong commitment when all he really wanted was a fling". After the article went viral on social media, it garnered huge flak from some of the members from the Indian film fraternity, reported Business Standard.

Bollywood starlets like Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Swara Bhasker criticised journalist Mariah Smith for writing a "racist" article on Priyanka and Nick's wedding.

"For a publication that 'shows women what they are made of', TheCut has a lot to answer for. The article on Priyanka was sexist, racist and disgusting. Also it's written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness. Mariah, shame on you," Sonam tweeted.

Swara added, "Depressed with the state of the world and current affairs? Here is some good old fashioned puerile filth published by TheCut to add some pointless venom to your day. Also someone invite Mariah to an Indian wedding, might assuage some of her misguided angst!"

In the article, Mariah also said, "Priyanka's indulgences and what she views as necessities speak volumes of her personality and what she'll do, or think she needs to do for her career." She also slammed the couple stating that they had their high profile wedding just to make money.

Veteran writer-producer Vinta Nanda was left "shocked" after reading the article. She said, "What does the writer mean by saying that he is gotten married against his will to a fraudulent relationship? Does the writer not see in pictures that it was one of the most beautiful weddings ever?"

Priyanka's Gunday co-star Arjun Kapoor also shared his two cents. He tweeted, "I know Priyanka personally and I’m fairly certain Nick hasn’t been kidnapped and forced into a union of love. The New York Mag, you have an unhappy, opinionated, racist, frustrated journalist who’s gone on and on about two people who, by choice, have gotten married. Tacky and uncouth writing."

Reham Khan expressed her opinion. She wrote, "Marriage is a beautiful union and these two wonderful people from clearly great families treated with such hate and suspicion is plain spiteful. A beautiful empowered woman who has worked hard from a young age to be called a scam artist reeks of insecurity."

Even Priyanka's brother-in-law Joe Jonas and his fiancee Sophie Turner called out Mariah for her blatant assumptions. The Game of Thrones star tweeted, "This is wildly inappropriate and totally disgusting. Very disappointed that TheCut would give anyone a platform to spew such non-sense."

Joe shared his concerns. He added, "This is disgusting. TheCut should be ashamed to have someone write such evil words. What Nick and Priyanka have is beautiful love. Thank you, next."

The Don star was also asked to comment on the article to which she responded by saying, "I don’t want to react or comment. It’s not even in my stratosphere. I’m in a happy place at this moment. These kind of random things can’t disturb it."

Apart from being one of the leading actors of Bollywood, Priyanka was also crowned Miss World in 2000. After starring in numerous hit films with the who's who of the Indian fraternity, the actor made her way to Hollywood and starred with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in 2017's Baywatch. In her time in the US, she also played the lead role in American TV show, Quantico.
