Captain (retd) Safdar was on Wednesday admitted to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology following illness.

Safdar, the son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, has been ailing for the past several days, receiving medical treatment in Lahore.

On September 19, Islamabad High Court suspended the sentences against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law retired captain Mohammad Safdar, releasing them on bail from Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail.
A division bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb had allowed petitions filed by the Sharif family against the accountability court's July 6 verdict in Avenfield reference case, which found them guilty of corruption.
