On September 19, Islamabad High Court suspended the sentences against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law retired captain Mohammad Safdar, releasing them on bail from Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail.
A division bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb had allowed petitions filed by the Sharif family against the accountability court's July 6 verdict in Avenfield reference case, which found them guilty of corruption.
