LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry on Thursday gave more time to the Punjab government to constitute a high level commission to fix responsibility for deaths of patients during the Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) strikes.

The petitioner’s counsel said that more than 50 patients died during YDA strikes on account of being denied timely treatment. He asked the court to order registration of criminal cases against those responsible.

The court asked the law officer, appearing on behalf of the Punjab government, to inform the court about progress in this regard. The law officer requested the court to grant more  time for this. The petition was field by Manzoor Qadir, a journalist, who said that striking  doctors had violated their code of professional conduct.
