Contrary to what many might say about Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas jumping the gun by tying the knot so soon - they have actually known each other for more than two years. Let's just say it wasn't a happy coincidence that the two showed up wearing Ralph Lauren at the last year's Met Gala.

But hey! They weren't in a courtship then. In a recent, tell-all interview with Vogue, the former Miss World dished out all the exciting details of her fairy-tale romance with the American heartthrob.

It was at the Vanity Fair party last year in February when Nick got down on one knee and asked (quite loudly, he recalls) a stunned Priyanka, to marry him. "And I put my drink down,” the Jealous singer reminisced, “get on one knee - this is in front of a bunch of people - and I say, ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’ Like, loud!" Priyanka, who had a flight waiting for her, accepted the offer and told her manager (Anjula Acharia), "Five minutes."

The then alleged couple showed up at the 2017 Met Gala in Ralph Lauren ensembles and that actually created a bit of a buzz. The same night, Priyanka invited Nick over to her apartment for drinks - with her mum present and watching a show. Nick corroborated this.

However, it wasn't until a date in Los Angeles that the Quantico star felt it could be more than just flirtation.

“'I love the way you look at the world. I love the drive you have,'" Priyanka quoted Nick. “As a girl, I’ve never had a guy tell me, ‘I like your ambition,’” she said. “It’s always been the opposite.”

Despite being linked with several co-stars, the Bajirao Mastani star never publicly accepted her relationship. “I’ve had that rule my whole life,” she commented. “Never publicly acknowledge a relationship. Ever.”

But it was different when it came to Nick. “I’ve not known myself like this,” she laughed. “This guy turned me into such a girl! If I could blush, I’d be tomato red right now.”

The duo texted back and forth with "some serious eye flirtation,” Nick shared. “We hung out for a couple of hours,” Priyanka continued of their apartment date. “He patted my back before he left.”

“There was no kiss. There was nothing,” Nick confirms. “There was a back pat,” Priyanka says, with a look of pure disbelief on her face. “She’s still upset about that," added Nick. “Your mom was in the house! I thought it was a respectful first night.”

“It was too respectful if you ask me," Priyanka rolled her eyes.

It wasn't until the Met Gala last year they considered dating. Later that month in LA, the Chains crooner invited Priyanka to a live performance of Beauty and the Beast. They met at the Chateau Marmont.

“She walks into the Chateau, and I feel an overwhelming sense of peace and understanding about this next chapter of my life," he went on. The following morning, Nick called his mother and informed her that he was going to marry the Bollywood icon.

The 26-year-old proposed to the love of his life on her 36th birthday this year. He, however, waited until after midnight, so that future engagement anniversaries would not coincide with her birthday celebrations.

He had the ring with him, having shut down a Tiffany & Co in London to pick it out with his brothers a few weeks earlier.

“I got down on one knee again, and I said. 'Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” Nick said. “No joke - she took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence. I’m going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections.”

The couple announced their engagement in August with a Roka ceremony. “It was such an incredible coming-together of two really ancient cultures and religions. Nick did the Hindu prayers,” Priyanka commented. “The prayers are in Sanskrit. Even I can’t say them. But he did it in Sanskrit. The Indians were so impressed with their national jeeju.”

The couple is all set to marry this weekend in Jodhpur.  The three-day extravaganza promises to be over the top. “People will need vacations after this wedding,” Priyanka laughed.
