ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari has presented a five-point agenda for resolving the Kashmir issue.

Speaking at an event titled "Remember The Invasion of Kashmir: How Youth Can Help End War", organised by the Youth Forum For Kashmir (YFK) on Tuesday, she said the country should keep reiterating implementation of the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir as the resolutions on East Timor were similar.

She said the legitimacy of Pakistan's stance on Kashmir was based on the UN resolutions, “so we should not deviate from UN resolutions”.

She accused the previous government of not raising the Kashmir issue in letter and spirit and consequently giving space to India to take benefit of its weak diplomacy.

Referring to the UN Kashmir Report 2018, she said India was denying international investigation teams and media permission to visit Indian Occupied Kashmir and that's why the human rights violations did not immediately come into the knowledge of the world.

Presenting her suggestions for resolving the issue, the minister said Pakistan should also demand an international investigation in Kashmir as the UN report did. "We need to draw attention of the international community at world's legal and other forums to the human rights abuses by India.

"We should demand that the UN restore operations of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) in Indian Occupied Kashmir as they are working in Azad Jammu and Kashmir as observers," she added.
