Khushbakht Zubair Butt began her fitness journey to lose a few extra pounds. The practice later transitioned into a passion. Today she finds delight in instructing and inspiring people at Structure, Lahore. Find out her inspirations and the advice she has for people starting out on their journey to a healthier living

How did you decide to become a fitness trainer?

Well, I was a chubby girl and that probably played a part in it. When I first started working out to lose weight it was difficult. I didn’t get much guidance so it took me a long time to figure things out. I kept learning as I was losing weight gradually. Once I achieved my ideal weight my focus shifted more towards fitness and eventually it became my passion. I want to inspire people, especially women because I believe strong equals beautiful. When Structure offered me to work as a fitness trainer, I welcomed the opportunity with open arms.

Who or what gives you the most inspiration?

My father is my biggest inspiration. He was an athlete and was very much into weightlifting. He also competed on an international level. And I also love Hannah Eden’s (Instagram famous fitness trainer) work.  She is a huge inspiration for me.

How important is nutrition to you in creating a client’s regimen?

Nutrition is very important; it is fuel for your body. In order for the clients to get their desired results a proper diet plan is designed that features meals offering ample amount of nutrition.

What would you advise people that are just starting their weight loss journey?

If you are just starting out on your weight loss journey, I would recommend that you should incorporate meat, greens, nuts, seeds, fruits, and a little starch in your diet. Staying away from sugar and using salt to the minimum would be a good idea.

What are some of the misconceptions people have about exercising and getting in shape?

There are many misconceptions about exercise and staying in shape. Most people who are genetically thin and don’t gain weight feel that there is no reason to exercise which is not true. Being thin and having a toned body are two separate things. Working out regularly keeps a person fit, strong and healthy. Women think weight training will get them to look bulky and more masculine which also isn’t true. Some believe in crash diets but they don’t give long term results.

What does a typical day of eating include for you?

A typical day of eating for me includes eggs (3-5), oats, chicken/beef, nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruits, beans, protein shake, yoghurt and broth.

What’s are your favourite exercises?

My favourite exercises would have to be burpees, back squats, weighted lunges, plank holds and kettlebell swings.

Your typical meal for each:

• Breakfast - Protein, carb, fat, eggs, oats, milk and chia seeds

• Supper - Oat meal/ Yogurt

• Favourite beverage - Mint ginger lemonade

• Snacks/Sweets - Energy bar, Trail mix
