An incident highlighting incompetence of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) officials surfaced on Tuesday after they nominated a man, who had died a year ago, in a case relating to manhandling and hurling threats at them.

According to the first information report (FIR) lodged at the Uch Sharif Police Station, Abdul Malik hurled threats at the meter-readers and pushed them out of his home when they tried to carry out their official duty, Express News reported.

The accused also warned the Mepco staff of ‘dire consequences’, the FIR further read.

However, when the police team raided the residence of the accused, they were informed that he had passed away one year ago. Relatives of the deceased also showed the police team his grave in the local graveyard.

Expressing annoyance over this act of incompetence, the family and neighbours of the deceased advised the power distribution company of focusing on its performance instead of blaming the departed soul.
