ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Accountability Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of PTI leader Dr Babar Awan's plea, seeking acquittal from Nandipur power project case until the conclusion of graft references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik resumed hearing of the case and adjourned the same without further proceedings.

Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, who was also nominated in the reference, did not appear before the court due to exemption from the hearing.   The National Accountability Bureau had already submitted its reply with the court regarding the matter.

The trial court decided to hear the case after the completion of proceedings in graft references against the Sharif family in accordance with a given deadline by the apex court in this regard.

It may be mentioned here that seven persons, including Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Babar Awan, were nominated as accused in the case. On August 8, the apex court had ordered to reopen the Nandipur power case.

Talking to the media outside the court, the PTI leader said, “Most of the people thought that the PTI government will not be able to stay in power for 100 days, but it has.

“The impression that nobody could stay in power without polishing the shoes of America, has no impact anymore. The irresponsible statement of the US president got an answer and came to know that the Pakistani government is awake.”
