Akram Sheikh says bank accounts frozen

Says he is a target of vengeful investigation for taking up a case against Musharraf

Renowned lawyer Akram Sheikh claimed on Monday that his all banks accounts have been frozen in consequence of contesting high treason case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

The lawyer added that the restriction on his assets was also in regards to Hanif Abbasi's petition seeking Prime Minister Imran Khan's disqualification.



Speaking to the media agencies at Supreme Court premises, he claimed that he has been asked to leave the country immediately.

"I can not pay salary to my employees," he adds

Sheikh says that everything has been done by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for not paying advance tax, adding that FBR is doing anything with the consent of top brass of the government.

The veteran lawyer said that the media and other institutions are being suppressed in this country. "I will raise my voice against this oppression in court and in international forums," he added.



Sheikh also asserted that he is a target of vengeful investigation and has filed cases against both Hanif Abbasi and Jahangir Tareen.

He stepped down as the head of the prosecution team in July, tasked by the previous federal government to prosecute Musharraf on charges of high treason under Article 6 of the Constitution.
