Rangers shooting: DG Rangers promises 'severe punishment'

"Those involved in this incident will be given the severest punishment possible."

KARACHI: DG Rangers Sindh, Ajaz Chaudhry on Thursday said that an inquiry into the killing of a youth in Karachi by Rangers personnel is underway, and those involved will face "severe punishment".

Chaudhry said the inquiry will be conducted by a brigadier and two lieutenant colonels.

"Those involved in this incident will be given the severest punishment possible," said Chaudhry.

"Rangers have not been given authority to shoot and kill a citizen in this manner, so as soon as our findings from inquiry are in, we will take the strictest action possible... Rangers are only allowed to fire in self defense."

Chaudhry added that those involved in the killing were immediately arrested and an FIR was registered against them.

PM's warning

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilan told lawmakers on Thursday it was illegal to abuse state institutions, after an MP called the paramilitary "terrorists in uniform" over the killing of an unarmed man in Karachi.

Gilani warned parliamentarians that under article 63 of the constitution, abusive language could not be used against the superior judiciary and armed forces, according to state news agency APP.

"The PM requested the chair to expunge the language being used against institutions," the agency reported.

Earlier, lawmaker Khwaja Saad Rafique from the opposition Pakistan Muslim League N party, used "foul language" against the Ranger paramilitary force, calling them "terrorists in uniform" who must be "bridled", APP said.

Five members of the paramilitary unit were being held in connection with the killing of a young man at point blank range in a park, which was filmed live and broadcast on television.

President asks for inquiry report

President Asif Ali Zardari summoned a report of the Karachi incident of rangers killing. PM ordered an inquiry into the matter. He promised to personally handle the incident.

Salman | 13 years ago | Reply The video clearly shows that OTHER 6 RANGERS were encouraging the shooter to "kill & shoot"....they were saying "Maar....maar....maar iss ko..." So, please have some respect for your self. Also, even if Rangers could not control him before shooting, then what was keeping them from taking him to the hospital after he was soooooo badly injured and bleeding.??? they were all standing there watching him begging to be taken to the hospital?? I am sorry to be harsh, but its people who justify any act of brutality comitted by people in uniform. Which Pakistan these People Uniform want to save? A Pakistan without any living soul? They kill people in the name of saving the country and they dont want anyone to criticize them because they are the saviours of the country? But can there be a country without people????

Shame on these people, and shame on the government, who always 'condemns' the action, but does nothing else.

After watching this sad video, I and my family was shocked of the brutal murder taking place at the hands of our own security personnel. I live in South Africa where crime rate is very high. But atleast you know who are the would be attackers (Black). But in Pakistan - - - - you unfortunately do not know who is your enemy and who will attack you from back or front. Bilal | 13 years ago | Reply DG Rangers should resign immediately, all the rangers present at the time should face an expedited trial under terrorism charges and a public firing squad. The immediate family of the deceased should be compensated via the any budget/finances available to the rangers for the rest of their lives. Most important is that all of this should take place within the week; since the trial is merely a formality given the victim was unarmed, defenceless and pleaded for his life. Whats worse is that the deceased was short twice. Clearly under no circumstances could that have been necessary and shows that the trigger happy ranger commited this crime in the face of no apparent security risk.

But the language being used by Parliamentarians, such as, Khawaja Saad Rafique, is nothing short of seeking cheap thrills and rabble rousing. Every two timing legislator wants to be at the forefront in condemning the act, without letting the process run its course. Rafique is probably under the impression that the investigation will be on the lines of inquires undertaken to probe the misdeeds of his leaders and mentors, where justice was mockery. He needs to be assured that there are still some honest people around and they are doing their small bits. I’m sure the inquiry ordered by the Rangers, unlike inquires undertaken against his ilk, will be fair and appropriate in its recommendations. If the fact finding process is biased and lacks professionalism, he would be expected to step in and protest.

But if you would watch the video of Sialkot you will notice it was the people who were killing those boys. And they were enjoying that. But I have a question for all of you civilize people to ponder what these people 'the terrorist in uniform' would have done to the innocent people of Swat and other tribal agencies in the absence of media! Due to media civilize society have just seen few glimpses (first Karotabad and now Karachi incident) of abuse of power by para-military authorities in relatively rural areas. I think there would have been thousand of such incidents in far off areas of Balochistan and tribal areas. 'Civilise community' was sleeping at the human right violations in those incidents. It is curse of Allah on aur law enforcement agencies that is why their real face is coming to the common people.

He should have order an immediate arrest and an expedited trial under the terrorism act. Another funny character is the Interior Minister for defending the killers and putting the blame on poor victim just because he was a alleged thief and deserved it. We have seen that the Rangers personal have killed the innocent boy in front of the Media, like their own personnel hard core enemy . The video is clear that the deceased was unarmed, and no incriminating articles were found from his possession. the DG ranger must resigned and the five murderer must be publicly hanged or shot publicly as they have did with deceased Sarfaraz.

The severe punishment according to the Islamic Law is that all Rangers personnel who were involved in the brutal killing of an innocent and unarmed citizen should be killed by shooting one by one by the members of the bereaved family members. If the government will not do the justice within a specific period of time, I am afraid that Taliban will come forward to punish the Rangers in the same way as the boy has been killed.
