Wanted criminal killed in encounter

The culprit, Hasnain, had killed a citizen and opened fire on a police vehicle a few days ago

A wanted criminal was killed in a police encounter within the jurisdiction of Civil Lines police station, Express News reported.

District Police Officer Nasir Siyal said that the police received information that a wanted outlaw, Hasnain Asghar, was spotted near a canal in Petrol Pump Mangat area.

He added that after receiving the tip, a police team, under the supervision of DSP Rana Shabbir Ahmed and SHOs from different police stations, rushed to the spot to nab the culprit. However, he maintained that when police officials reached the area, the accused and his accomplices opened fire on them.

The DPO pointed out that the police retaliated and a shoot-out occurred. “During the encounter, accused Hasnain sustained bullet injuries and was killed on the spot, while his accomplices managed to escape under the cover of fire and taking advantage of darkness,” he disclosed.

Siyal mentioned that a Kalashnikov and several bullets were seized from the possession of the culprit.

He revealed that the deceased outlaw was wanted by police for a number of criminal cases and was involved in several robbery and rape incidents.

He said that a few days ago, the accused had opened fire on a police vehicle injuring the driver, Imran, who sustained critical bullet injuries.  Siyal said that the suspect also gunned down a citizen, Muneer Ahmed, on October 27.

The police official highlighted that the culprit and his gang used to commit robberies and rape women in different areas. He said that the deceased outlaw had been evading the police for some time.

Earlier, a robber was killed while another was arrested after being wounded in a police encounter in Gujranwala.

Police said that two robbers barged into a shop belonging to Ramzan Traders located on Sialkot Road where the owner, Muhammad Kamran was present. The robbers began looting the shop during which a man entered the premises. Upon seeing the robbers, the man left the shop and shouted for help. A patrolling Dolphin force squad reached the site and challenged the culprits.

The robbers opened fire on the police team and tried to escape. During the encounter, one robber was killed while his accomplice was arrested in an injured condition.

The arrested robber was identified as Adeel, while the deceased robber was identified as Malik Imtiaz.
