Flagship hearing resumes today

Counsel Haris likely to conclude his arguments the same day

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court will resume hearing on Monday (today) in the Flagship reference case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment in the Panamagate case.

The Accountability Court 2, headed by Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik, will begin hearing the final arguments from the prosecution in the Al-Azizia case from Tuesday.

Lead defence counsel Khawaja Haris will cross-examine Mohammad Kamran, the investigation officer in the Flagship Investment reference, and likely to conclude his arguments the same day.

After completing the cross-examination of the investigation officer, the court will put about questions to the deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif for recording his statement in the Flagship Investment reference under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Wasiq Malik will also begin his argument in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case form Tuesday.



Earlier, the deposed prime minister had concluded his testimony before the court in the Al-Azizia reference on Thursday and presented arguments related to the financial strength of his late father, past achievements and legal points to defend his case.

Addressing accountability court, the deposed prime minister said his father had established the steel industry in 1937, but he had dissociated himself from the family business 40 years ago.



He said his sons were financially independent adults and had been managing their business in compliance with laws of the country they lived in and, therefore, it did not make any sense to tie him with their financial dealings.

There was no proof of wrongdoing presented during the course of this never-ending investigation, the most substantial proof of which was the statement by Wajid Zia, head of the Joint Investigation Team constituted by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case, he added.
