K-P safe for tourism, says Brazilian envoy

Claudio Raja Gabaglia Lins says his country can help Pakistan produce ethanol

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) has great potential in the tourism sector especially after improvement in the law and order situation in the province.

This was stated by the Ambassador of Brazil Claudio Raja Gabaglia Lins during Guest Hour at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday.

The ambassador was accompanied by his wife, Deputy Head of Mission Romulo Neves and Honourary Consul General of Brazil in Peshawar Amir Farooque.

The ambassador pointed out that it was his first ever visit to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and he was deeply impressed by the hospitality of the people.

He expressed his joy that the menace of terrorism in K-P was no more and Peshawar was an absolute safe city.

He said that K-P was rich in tourism potential with great historical sites.

The ambassador said that Brazil and Pakistan had excellent cordial relations with Pakistan and his country was ready to cooperate in energy and socio-economic sectors.

Fielding another question he disclosed that that a lot of Pakistanis had graduated from the Brazilian varsities and were teaching at University of Peshawar in different faculties.

Earlier, Peshawar Press Club President Alamgir Khan and General Secretary Shahabuddin received the guests and briefed them about the history of the club.

The envoy expressed grief on knowing that the suicide attack on Peshawar Press Club had claimed two lives in 2009.

He praised the role of K-P journalists in the war against terror in challenging situation. K-P journalists would be included in the media exchange programme in future.

Enhancing trade ties

In another address to businessmen at the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Ambassador Gabagila Lins said that his country was willing to promote bilateral trade and economic ties with Pakistan.

He said that Pakistan-Brazil trade volume presently stood at $660 million which needed to be enhanced in viable economic sector.

He said Pakistan can benefit from Brazil’s experience of energy generation through ethanol as it is also a producer of sugarcane.
