QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly (BA) Speaker Abdul Quddus Bizenjo on Sunday decided to resign from his post after developing differences with the ruling coalition government led by Balochistan Awami Party’s (BAP) Jam Kamal Khan.

“I am a senior member of BAP. I have decided to resign from the post of the BA speaker because I am being left out of the decision-making process,” Bizenjo, who is the former chief minister of Balochistan, informed The Express Tribune over the telephone.

“After consensus with close aides, I will tender my resignation to the governor,” he added.

However, sources say Bizenjo strongly opposes the recent appointment of Rameen Muhammad Hassani as special assistant to the Balochistan CM as the latter is the former CM’s political opponent in Awaran district.

Balochistan government spokeswoman Bushra Rind said, “The party has not received any news regarding Bizenjo’s resignation.”

Bizenjo was sworn in as the BA speaker after bagging the PB-41 Awaran seat in the general elections. However, he kept himself away from the provincial government’s affairs and BAP activities.

“I believe that by just being an MPA, I can serve the people of my constituency. I don’t want to put further burden on the provincial government by just sitting on the speaker’s post,” Bizenjo said, adding that he would reveal the truth before the masses during a press conference.

Further, a minister of the coalition government expressed astonishment over the speaker’s announcement, calling him an integral part of the BAP-led coalition government.

“We are surprised over Bizenjo’s act of dissociating himself from the government as he did not express his reservations during the party meetings,” said Balochistan Minister for Information Zahoor Buledi, adding that concerns of the speaker would be addressed.

“The provincial government has been working on implementation of merit in Balochistan and Bizenjo has played a fervent role in it,” said Buledi. “We won’t let the speaker leave.”

Bizenjo remained active in ousting the provincial government of former chief minister Sanaullah Zehri in January.

After succeeding in overthrowing Zehri’s government through a no-confidence motion, Bizenjo was elected the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

MAD | 5 years ago | Reply He is the speaker. he is not supposed to be part of decision making. I agree he was CM in the past and obviously it rankles a bit but still. At the same time BAP must avoid silly politics.
