QUETTA: The National Party on Sunday staged a demonstration in front of Quetta Press Club against the construction of Expressway in Gwadar.

According to a statement, the protest was arranged under the leadership of NP’s General Secretary Jan Mohammad Buledi. The leaders stressed that the project would make it difficult for fishermen to make two ends meet.

The party workers carried placards and party flags at the demonstration and were raising slogans against the construction of Expressway.

The central leadership of the party including Dr Ishaq, Haji Atta Mohammad Bangulzai, Khair Jan Baloch and the chairman of Baloch Students Organisation, Hameed Baloch were present.

The leaders called this step “similar to the genocide of fishermen”. The party is against this project because the people of Gwadar are largely dependent on fishing and this project may turn them into paupers, according to the statement.

Thereby, NP would raise their voice throughout the country against the project.

The people of Gwadar are associated with this profession since very long time and a huge economy for Gwadar is generated through fishing, “this project will end both”.

“Without the participation of people, no project would be successful,” the leaders stressed. Moreover, it was demanded that the participation of people must be ensured in the establishment of all projects.

The leaders demanded of the government to stop the work on the expressway project. Fishermen have strong objections against the project, but the government is playing the role of a silent spectator, says the statement.
