Kakar targetted on his way home from local mosque

Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Naeem Kakar was gunned down by unknown assailants in Quetta late Saturday night, Express News reported.

The retired police officer was on his way home after offering his prayers at a local masjid in Pishin's Junior Assistant Colony, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him.

Kakar was critically injured in the process and then shifted to Combined Military Hospital, where he succumbed to his bullet wounds.

Authorities condoned off the the area with an investigation into the incident underway.

The incident comes in the wake of the kidnapping and subsequent murder of superintendent of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar.


Dawar had gone missing in the federal capital last month with his dead being recovered from Afghanistan's Nangarhar province earlier in this week.


Several police officials, as well as, other law enforcement agencies' personnel have fallen victim to terrorism and killings in Balochistan  this year.
