ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his concern over an entry ban on Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry from Senate sessions, during a telephonic conversation with Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

According to details, PM Imran urged the Senate chairman to resolve the matter with mutual understanding. On which, Sanjrani told the premier he did not have any personal conflict with Chaudhry, “however, his aggressive style of speech makes it difficult to run the session smoothly,” he added.

In an unprecedented move on Thursday, the Senate chairman barred the information minister from entering Senate over his failure to tender an apology to the Upper House.

As proceedings began, the opposition reiterated their demand for Chaudhry to apologise.

True leaders take U-turns: PM Imran

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Raja Zafarul Haq said, “There has been a lot of bad blood in the house and it is affecting the house’s pride. We do not have any other solution to this than just walk out. Until an apology is tendered, the rest is all meaningless.”

“Until this person comes here and asks the entire parliament for an apology, the opposition will not (attend),” said Hasil Bizenjo.

Leader of the House Shibli Faraz, however, suggested record of Chaudhry and PML-N senator Mushahidullah Khan’s statements be analysed by a committee, and offered an apology on behalf of the information minister.

Subsequently, the opposition staged a walkout, following which Chairman Sanjrani gave a ruling, directing Chaudhry to tender an apology. He then ordered the information minister to come to the House and tender his apology, making it clear that failure to do so will get him banned from attending the session.
