Conductor burns to death after truck catches fire in Sheikhupura

Police said that due to severe burns the identity of the deceased conductor could not be ascertained

SHEIKHUPURA: A conductor of a truck was burnt to death when the truck's driver rammed the vehicle into an oil tanker and caught fire on Mandyali Toll Plaza on Lahore Road.

The accident occurred late Wednesday night. On receiving the information, the rescue 1122 teams under the supervision of district emergency officer Sheikhupura, Rana Aijaz Ahmed, reached the site along with two fire vehicles, one special rescue vehicle and one ambulance while one special rescue vehicle and one ambulance from Lahore also reached the site to control the fire.

According to police, the tanker was carrying 60,000 tons of petrol and was coming from Lahore. The truck coming from the back on Mandyali Toll Plaza hit the oil tanker due to which the tanker caught fire and within moments three booths of Toll Plaza and truck caught fire. The rescue teams controlled the fire on time and saved the cars and building standing on the Toll Plaza.

According to rescue spokesperson Shahid Hussain, oil tanker's driver stopped on Toll Plaza to pay tax, but the driver of the truck who was drowsy and was coming from behind lost control over the vehicle and rammed into the oil tanker. After the incident, he managed to escape while the conductor remained stuck in the truck and burnt to death on the spot. He added that the fire, which broke out due to a short-circuit worsened and he burnt to death.

Police said that due to severe burns the identity of the deceased conductor could not be ascertained. However, truck and oil tanker are completely damaged.
