School to train cops on modern lines soon: IG

Says proposal for instituting separate force for VIP duty sent to govt

QUETTA: Inspector General of Police in Balochistan Mohsin Hassan Butt on Tuesday said a school of information would be set up to improve police performance and investigation process, adding that step were being taken to impart training to police personnel on modern lines.

“Presently, 1,900 new recruits are acquiring training in police training centers,” the IG said while addressing the farewell ceremony of the retired police officers in Quetta.

Butt said that the police department “highly values the services of retired officers who played a vital role in the restoration of law and order situation in the province”.



AIG Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, DIG Headquarter Habib Hussain Imtiaz, DIG Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema, DIG CTD Aitzaz Goraya and regional police officers were also present on the occasion.

The IG said that retired officers were part of the police department and they would be invited to such ceremonies in the future.

“Now they can feel free to contact the IG office on any issue,” he said, adding that the police department was fully committed to providing the retired officers with opportunities through which they could live independently.

Speaking on the transfer of the Levies personnel to police, Butt said that the matter was under debate but appointments of ASI, inspectors and DSPs would be made through public service commission.



He said that the proposal for institution of a special force for VIP duty had been sent to the government. He added that a two-day DIGs conference had reviewed measures to be taken for the welfare of the families of police martyrs and restoration of peace and security in Balochistan.

The IG said that comprehensive recommendations had been made in the DIGs conference to adhere to principles and standards at police stations.

Speaking on the occasion, AIG Manzoor said the new Gawalmandi Police Station building would be completed by November 30.

“The construction of new Civil Line Police Station and Lady Police Station is also underway and will be completed very soon” he added.

DIG Cheema sharing details of the Quetta Safe City Project with other officers. He said more than 1,400 new CCTV cameras were to be installed at 700 places in the provincial capital, of which 150 had been installed “are proving effective in eradicating crime from the city”.

Later, the retired police officers were awarded honorary shields.
