As the couple tied the knot in an intimate affair in Italy yesterday, here's a lowdown of their romance

KARACHI: It's your conventional love story. It probably even fits the bill. What seemingly felt like the perfect on-screen pairing -  the kind we see in a quintessential Bollywood film - deep down we all rooted for Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone to end up together in real life too. That too, way before they finally decided to go public with their rumoured affair after keeping it under wraps for six years.

From children to adults, the awe-inspiring relationship is probably everyone's favourite. Be Deepika's struggle with depression or Ranveer's failing health at one point in time, the couple has always been by each other's side.

As the star duo recently tied the knot in an intimate affair in Italy, here's a lowdown of their epic tale of romance.

The first impression:

Recently at the Hindustan Times Summit, the couple talked about their first meeting. The Piku starlet reminisced on how she watched her  beau's debut film, Band Baja Baraat, and had a conversation with her agent about how Ranveer might not make it big in Bollywood. The Befikre actor on the other hand recalled being blown away by her beauty.

The 'sizzling' on-screen chemistry:

Before #DeepVeer was even rumoured to be dating, they wowed audiences with their picture perfect on-screen romance in their first film together, Goliyon Ki Raseela: Ram Leela. What most didn't comprehend was that Deepika and Ranveer would go on to become the 'It' Bollywood couple of today.

The duo later starred in two more movies, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat - both helmed by Ram Leela director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

In 2013, Ranveer first publicly spoke about his apparent 'lady love'. “I have felt like this in the past also, but it’s a strong feeling this time. When you feel so strongly then you can say I guess I am in love," the Dil Dhadakne Do star commented without taking names.

But it was strongly directed towards Deepika, or at least that's what many guessed. "I don’t know what is love, but what I am feeling is quite strong and cannot explain it. [I like] everything [about this girl]. Her kindness and her being genuine and caring."

Hindustan Times then inquired Deepika about Ranveer's comment. To which she said, “No, it’s amazing, the way he is. He is so unique. And I think what I admire about him is that he is so unapologetic about the way he is.”

The couple was then reportedly spotted on several vacations together and even paid late night visits to each other's homes.

The numerous wedding rumours:

It was 2016 when the first rumour of their wedding emerged. Since then, there were multiple times the couple apparently finalised their wedding dates. However, last month, the Bajirao Mastani co-stars officially announced that they'll be tying the knot on November 14 and November 15.

It all started on Karan Johar's talk show's latest season of Koffee with Karan, which saw Deepika and Alia Bhatt as its first guests. On the show, reports about the couple having a November wedding went viral. When Karan asked the ladies who will be tying the knot first, Alia promptly called out Deepika for taking the plunge first.

Later, when Ranveer made an appearance on the same show with Akshay Kumar, the Gold actor mocked him for not letting him speak at all. Calling Ranveer a difficult person to be with, he added, “Hats off to Deepika.”

After years and years of speculation, Deepika and Ranveer officially confirmed their wedding simultaneously by posting their statements on social media. Their announcement was met with thousands of good wishes from the B-town fraternity and fans alike.
