In Punjab: ‘Modernisation of brick kilns start’
Punjab Environment Protection Department officer says zigzag technology reduces cost
The Punjab government has initiated a project to modernise brick-kilns in the province so that the risk of air pollution could be minimisd, said Punjab Environment Protection Department Director Naseemur Rehman. Talking to the APP on Friday he said, the modernised brick-kilns based on zigzag technology would not only reduce the production cost of bricks and the fuel charges but also help control air pollution and smog. “Recently, we visited Nepal with the cooperation of the Kiln Association and we found out a different process without making changes in the conventional kilns,” he said. He said that through the new process, which was called zigzag technology results of brick-baking had proved far better. Rehman said that 70 to 80 per cent emissions were reduced through the new process and time of preparation of bricks was also reduced. “So far 35 to 40 modern kilns are under construction,” he concluded.
