The suspect and his accomplice killed the former justice over a past enmity on October 30 while he was on his way back home with his wife and niece after attending a funeral at Tarkowal.
The police registered a murder case upon request from wife of the deceased, Zubaida Tasleem Akhtar. According to the case, Zubaida was returning to Chakwal in her car with her husband and his niece after attending a funeral at Tarkowal village when Sohail Akram along with his accomplice Sajjad Anwar opened fire at them. The incident critically injured Chaudhry Mehmood and his niece Mismata Sajida Bibi.
The suspects, Sohail Akram and Sajjad Anwar fled to Rawalpindi soon after the scene on a motorcycle. Her husband died on the spot while the car windows were also smashed.
According to the FIR the incident was the result of a long going enmity and was carried out after proper planning. After the case was registered, CPO Rawalpindi Abbas Ahsan formed up a team under SSP Operations Syed Ali Akbar.
The team included SHOs of Jatli Police Station and Mandra Police Station. After a few days it has been reported, the prime suspect of the case Sohail Akram has been arrested.
It has also been revealed that while he was trying to escape the suspect fell off his motorcycle and sustained three bone fractures on his leg.
After the arrest of the prime suspect, the police are now carrying out raids to apprehend his accomplice. SSP Saddar Saifullah was approached to comment on the matter but he was not available due to being in a meeting.
