Rs60b needed for primary education in rural areas: Buledi

Says curriculum to be purged of topics promoting extremism

QUETTA: Minister for Information and Higher Education Mir Zahoor Buledi on Wednesday said the provincial government needed Rs60 billion for establishing primary schools in rural areas.

He was speaking at a conference ‘Youth Dialogue on Democratic, Peaceful Governance and Sustainable Development’ in Quetta organised by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Pakistan.



The minister said that with the arrival of investment under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the issues like ‘quality and technical education’ had gained significance, but the rural areas of Balochistan were still deprived of basic schooling facilities.

He said Chief Minister Jam Kamal had shown keen interest in the education sector. And the government, he added, had been taking urgent steps for improving the standard of education in the province.

Buledi also assured review of the curriculum to remove the topics promoting extremism.

Speaking on the occasion, senior politician Jan Muhammad Jamali said dictatorship harmed the country more than anything else.



“The young generation of our province has a vital role in the development of Balochistan. Without education, the province can’t progress,” he said and urged the youth to join politics.

Talking about the prevailing financial crisis, Jamali said the Centre and the provincial government had been taking steps to lower the huge burden of debts and bring financial stability.
