AIOU to provide vocational training to prisoners

On May 22, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) had decided to work out a plan to provide vocational training to prisoners all over the country.

Initially, tailoring centres will be set up in the jails for the enrolled prisoners, so that they get the skill-based education free of cost, a press release said.

The decision about this was taken by AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui on a request received from the prisoners of Haripur Jail, K-P, in which currently, there are 161 AIOU students are admitted.

It was also agreed that the varsity would provide sewing machines and other stitching equipment.

Moreover, the varsity had also agreed to depute instructors for this purpose, said Dr Zahid Majeed who had been appointed as a focal person to undertake the necessary arrangements.
