ISLAMABAD: Beijing said on Monday that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s upcoming trip to China will provide an opportunity for leaders of the two countries to open a new chapter of bilateral relations.

The statement was made by the spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry Lu Kang while briefing the media on PM Imran’s maiden visit to China scheduled to begin November 2.

The visit will provide an opportunity for the leaders of our two countries to open a new chapter of bilateral relations under new circumstances, said Kang.

PM Imran will hold meetings with the Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Kiqiang to exchange views on cooperation and issues of common interest.

The premier will also attend China International Import Expo in Shanghai from November 5 on the invitation of the Chinese president. Pakistan will participate in the expo as a guest of honour while PM Imran is expected to deliver a keynote address.

Stressing that Islamabad and Beijing were “all-weather strategic cooperative partners”, Lu Kang remarked the friendship was seasoned and enjoyed strong mutual political trust.

He also expressed confidence in bilateral relations surviving changes in international and domestic circumstances.

Both countries have enjoyed frequent high-level bilateral relations and our pragmatic cooperation has deepened as well, he added.

The foreign ministry spokesman added that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had achieved "a fruitful outcome" and strengthened ties between the two countries.

“We hope the two sides can take this opportunity to deepen across the board cooperation and move forward all-weather cooperative partnership.”

Engr.Amir Sultan Rana | 6 years ago | Reply Looks very much pragmatic for Pakistan. If the meetings processed ok, I think Pakistan will get good long term contracts for developments with China. I think, this is high time that Pakistan should tell about his potential too for meeting the targets and demands of the people of Pakistan. Prime Minister should portray right image of Pakistan and should tell them that we are aligned with all developments going on and going to be done for Pakistan now and in future. This is high time to have agreement on long term joint ventures which will eventually stabilize Pakistan for all times to come. Best of luck Pakistan.
