Delays: Funds needed to build jail

Lack of funds causing difficulties for prisoners: Police

Express June 07, 2011

FAISALABAD: The construction of seven new jails and additional high security barracks in various jails has been stopped due to lack of funding.

Police officials said that the lack of funds was causing difficulties for the prisoners as it had disrupted the plan to reduce the number of prisoners in crowded jails across the province.

Construction of the district jail in Pak Pattan at an estimated cost of Rs 240.997 was initiated and 79 per cent of the work had already been completed but the work has now been postponed as the remaining Rs50.351 million is yet to be released by the government. “We are currently half way through construction,” jail official Ramzan said.
