Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday laid the foundation stone for a new building at King Edward Medical University (KEMU) and vowed that the government would give the university all the resources it needs to become one of the best medical institutions in the world.
He said that the government had recently announced a “historic package” worth Rs5.2 billion raising the salaries of young doctors, paramedics and nurses.
He said that six mobile health units equipped with modern treatment facilities were brought in to operate in the flood-affected areas last year because of the unsatisfactory performance of rural and basic health centres. Fifty more will be imported this year, he said.
Earlier, the chief minister also inaugurated a Donors Wall at the university.
