ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has a great potential to grow and its energy market will witness a major expansion in the years to come, said Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Vice Chairman Lian Weiliang.

He was speaking during a meeting with Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan in Suzhou city on Friday.

He assured the minister that China would continue to complement Pakistan's efforts to reform and expand its energy sector.

Pakistan asked to produce 30% of power from renewable sources

Khan appreciated Lian for inviting Pakistan's delegation to attend the Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference in Suzhou on Thursday.

Talking about energy priorities of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, he highlighted many areas of investment and said the upgrading of Pakistan’s distribution system required an investment of over $5 billion.

Engr.Amir Sultan Rana | 6 years ago | Reply The government of Pakistan should move on about this. No issue. But if private sector and other investments from foreign are going to be involved than do keep in mind that state owned institution like wapda should remain stand with their entity. The contract should be of a position in which we do not loose our institution. Its very important. My analysis says that there shall be a huge demand of electricity in the coming times and it will be better for Pakistan to tap all resources to complete this segment of running the country. The expansion of electronics, media, industry ...all of these shall require more and more electricity now and for the times to come. Hydal energy problem should be discussed with karachi as now sea water conversion technology in in the market. Than why not we make dams near the sea. Moreover, expand the knowledge and use of solar power energy to masses in Pakistan. We have many challenges in meeting our demands for coming 40-50 years of Pakistan. Its right time to make a comprehensive plans for this generation, for next and for all generations to come. Best of luck Pakistan.
