Databank: Police digitising record of criminals

The data will help keep track of ex-convicts, while going forward

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police have started computerising record of convicts.

The data will help keep track of ex-convicts, while going forward, police will have record of every inmate in jail and finally every suspect arrested and locked up in precincts.

Inspector General Salahuddin Mehsood has directed the police department to computerise record of criminals involved in heinous crimes.

Besides he has asked the jail authorities to degitise the data of inmates so as to keep an eye on their activities after their release.

Officials said that Peshawar police have, so far, digitised data of 3,036 criminals, who after completion of their sentences have been set free from jails. Similarly Mardan police completed computerisation of data of 692 criminals, Charsadda 512, Nowshera 723, Swabi 567, Buner 343, Lower Dir 1050, Chitral 93, Abbottabad 68, Haripur 437, Mansehra 528, Battagram 3, Kohat, 334, Karak 164, Bannu 542, Lakki Marwat 140 and DIKhan 335.

Criminal record of these people, along with finger prints, CNIC and mobile numbers are available to police officers throughout the province, officials said.

The data will help police analyse any particular incident in a very short time, they said.

K-P police have been equipped with information technology and modern tools due to which better results against all sort of crimes were being achieved.
