ABBOTTABAD: Following the recent appointment of Dr Aasim Yosuf as the chairman of Ayub Medical Teaching Institute’s board, a host of appointments on key positions were unveiled on Tuesday.
The newly formed board of the Ayub Medical Teaching Institute (AMTI) appointed Dr Athar Lodhi as the hospital’s new director, Professor Dr Ahsan Aurangzeb as the new medical director and Professor Dr Umer Farooq as the new dean.
Earlier, the board had elected Dr Yousaf as the new chairman of the board.
Dr Yousaf had served as the Chief Medical Officer and Consultant Gastroenterologist at Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital.
This will not be Dr Yousaf’s first stint in AMTI having previously served the institution as a member of the board of governors and having played a key role in the installation of the Hospital Information Management System at the hospital.
Dr Lodhi, who was previously serving as the director of the Institution-based Practice (IBP) has taken charge as the hospital director. He has more than 20 years of experience in health management, particularly at tertiary care hospitals in Pakistan and abroad, particularly in Canada.
He played an instrumental role in launching IBP in AMTI.
Neurosurgeon Dr Aurangzeb has been appointed as the Medical Director of Ayub Teaching Hospital. He has been serving in the neurosurgery department of the Ayub Teaching Hospital for the past 15 years.
Dr Farooq is a professor of Community Medicines and will now serve as the dean of the Ayub Medical College. Holding a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) he has been serving in the AMC since 2003 including as an associate dean in the past and the managing editor of JAMC- Journal of Ayub Medical College.
The board has asked all three appointees to submit a short-term plan within 15 days to address immediate issues related to patient care at the AMTI.
