Token tax defaulters: Pindi tax dept’s general hold-up this week

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Excise and Taxation Department is finalising arrangements to launch a general hold-up on October 17 against token tax defaulters, improper number plates and unregistered vehicles.

Rawalpindi Motor Registration Authority (MRA) Officer Sohail Sabir told the media that they have formed nine special teams for the hold-up, which will be simultaneously conducted in different areas of the district.

Vehicles of token tax defaulters and unregistered vehicles will be impounded during the operation.

The teams will check vehicles under the supervision of the Rawalpindi Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer Sohail Shahzad while Excise Inspectors Gul Sher Khan, Malik Javed, Raza Shah, Zulfiqar Abbas, Ehtishamul Haq, Jahangir Khan, Ajmal Bhatti and Fayyaz Babar would lead their respective teams in different areas.

Sabir added that the authorities concerned have strictly ordered to tighten the noose around vehicle token and other taxes defaulters in the district.

The department will not release any impounded vehicle until the defaulters pay the due tax.

He urged citizens to help the department by indicating the vehicles plying on roads without paying the token tax fee and customs duty so that the department could take legal action against these defaulters as per law.

Rawalpindi Division Excise and Taxation Director Sohail Arshad said that in the general hold-up launched on October 10, they had impounded 98 vehicles in the division. The teams checked a large number of vehicles at different points of Rawalpindi district and impounded 50 vehicles.

Another 550 registration books of token tax defaulters were confiscated.

He said that special teams also checked vehicles in the Chakwal district and impounded a further 19 vehicles while documents of 69 vehicles were confiscated during the operation. The teams of Jhelum district impounded 29 vehicles while documents of 66 vehicle tax defaulters were confiscated.

Similarly, the Attock Excise teams confiscated documents of 21vehicles during checking.
