Alistair Brownlee beat his brother Jonathan by two seconds in the Madrid Triathlon to as he put world-title rival Javier Gomez under more pressure. Alistair’s time of one minute 51.07 seconds ensured victory after the 23 year-old finished two seconds ahead of his younger brother Jonathan while reigning champion Gomez finished third, 44 seconds behind Alistair. After a fast swim, 12 athletes broke away early on the bike and created a 90-second gap by the second transition before the Brownlees dominated the run. The rest of the field was left speechless when Alistair’s decisive moment came when he broke away with two kilometres to go. Reigning Olympic champion Jan Frodeno was sixth with Britons Will Clarke and Stuart Hayes finishing 24th and 35th, respectively.
