SHABQADAR: As winter starts to creep into the air, the Lower Mohmand district administration, in collaboration with the local press club and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society has set up a ‘Wall of Kindness outside the press club in Ekkaghund.

The wall was inaugurated by the Lower Mohmand Assistant Commissioner Touseef Khalid along with officials of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

Khalid urged locals to donate their used clothes to the wall which can then be used by the poor and homeless.

With winter coming, he urged locals not to throw their old clothes away, especially warm clothing. Instead, they can now donate to the wall so that the needy can use them in the cold months.

“If you do not need it, leave it and if you need it, take it,” he added.

He added that in the initial stages the wall of kindness would continue in the Ekkaghund while PRCS plans to install additional such walls around the district.

On the first day, he said that people who do not their old clothes anymore can drop them at the wall.

Labourers, the homeless, orphaned kids or anyone who cannot afford warm clothes to fight the winter chill can then take these clothes.

“A few small steps like these will make you feel good about our district. People here need a little encouragement to do wonders,” said passerby Samiullah Khan.

He proposed that apart from warm clothes, people should also drop food and books for the needy.

To kick off the project, PRCS volunteers and some tribesmen left their jackets, coats and clothes on the hooks fixed on the wall.

Over the course of the day, those who needed these items silently took them without being noticed by anyone.
