Members of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) on Wednesday staged a protest outside the Punjab Assembly against the arrest of party president Shehbaz Sharif.

The protest session was called by Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Hamza Shehbaz.

The decision to organise protests was taken at the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting presided over by the PML-N supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif earlier this week.

Party spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb had said this is the first stage of protests against Shehbaz's 'unjustified' arrest. She continued that the party shall stage such protests on a daily basis starting Wednesday outside the Punjab Assembly and on Thursday outside the National Assembly.

According to the party, today's protest would be led by MPA Rana Mohammad Iqbal.

The CEC warned that if the government did not pay any heed to the PML-N’s demand for calling assembly sessions, the party would take these protests to the streets.
