Kohar Jewel is home to lovely designer jewellery. The exquisite designer adornments always stay in vogue so you need not keep them stashed away in lockers! Investing in a statement piece for your big day should be luxurious yet worthwhile. The creative duo behind the brand spill the beans on trends that should die and advice on how to decide the perfect jewellery for your big day!

Describe Kohar’s signature bride:

Kohar’s signature bride is a modern classic woman. Truly, for us the perfect bride doesn’t have to be rocking a particular look. A Kohar bride is one that radiates elegance and confidence.

What has been the most important skill you’ve learned in this industry and why?

The art of custom creating has been a big one for us. To work with a customer and understand what they could be looking for, and then channelling our creativity and the technical expertise of our craftsman to truly create a unique piece that surpasses our client’s expectations, is a skill that we believe we have picked up on.

What’s your favourite piece of jewellery that you’ve created and why?

Our favourite pieces of jewellery are the classics that never go out of style. Personally, we really like our pearl and diamond combination. This combination goes well with eastern and western attires.

What is one piece of jewellery from your collection that can be passed on as a family heirloom?

Kohar is all about creating heirloom pieces-we use 24k gold, best in class stones and most of our designs are handmade. We truly stand for timeless classics whether it is our gold pieces or diamond designs!

How should a bride differentiate when choosing her jewellery for different wedding events?

We believe that brides should worry less about what other brides are going for during a particular wedding season. We find it rather amusing that multiple brides will want the same look for their big day. It’s such a special time for anyone, its best to do what you really truly want to do. Personally, we feel that as the wedding scene evolves in Pakistan, brides should explore the idea of investing in looks that go with their theme. Go regal for traditional events such as nikkah and baraat, for mehndi and dholkis opt for some colour-emeralds- rubies or jhumkas - more dangly, dreamy designs. For valima and other formal evening events where the gentlemen are in their tux/jackets go for pearls, sapphires, diamonds- more geometric designs- diamond chokers are a personal favourite!

What would we see more of from your coming collections?

We’re currently working on some bridal pieces for the upcoming wedding season, these pieces are a mix of light bridals along with some statement pieces so that brides could use them on pre-wedding events and be able to wear them functionally in the future as well.

One advice you’d give to brides when investing in jewellery?

Go for with jewellery pieces that you see yourself wear even after your big day. Invest some emotion in your jewels so you enjoy wearing it innumerable times and then want to pass them down to your daughter. Think quality, think artisanship, think elegance. It does not have to be what you saw another bride wearing!

Which jewellery trends do you wish would die?

Bright yellow gold- you know pieces that seem like they could be melted to just become gold bricks? They are great in terms of investment but not jewellery. We think they are an eye sore!

What is one thing a bride should not do when choosing her jewellery?

For bridal jewellery we recommend that they do not pick the exact same stones as the base colour of their dress. Don’t go for an emerald laden jewellery design if you are wearing green or don’t go with a ruby laden design if your dress is red. I know most people will disagree but we truly believe that your dress and your jewels need to complement one another- they do not need to match!

How do you want brides to feel when wearing your jewellery?

We want brides to feel at their best when they wear our jewellery. It’s all about making them feel confident and elegant. As we said earlier, it’s not one look that Kohar stands for-we want our client to rock whichever look they feel comfortable in. Our success, as artists is in helping our customers achieve their desired look and make them comfortable and feel beautiful in it!
