RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Development Authority Chairman Arif Ali Abbasi will carry out an investigation of RDA’s performance over the last 10 years.

The former MPA will also introduce a complaint system for Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA). Instead of putting a tax burden on the public, the institution’s performance will be improved and efforts will be made to ensure no facilities go to waste.

“I will not stay here if I am prevented from serving people, there will be zero tolerance against corruption and as a chairman I will not avail any perks such as a government vehicle or a high salary,” said the RDA Chairman in the first press briefing on Monday.

Prior to this he chaired a joint meeting of RDA and WASA officers. Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Chairman Asif Mehmood and MPA Umar Tanvir Butt were also present in the press conference with the RDA Chairman.

Arif Ali Abbasi said that an RDA governing body will be formed soon. Mismanagement in wastage of facilities, nepotism and corruption will be taken care of.

He further said that action will be taken against illegal housing societies and no housing society will be permitted to install tube wells without payment to WASA.

RDA Chairman said that easy access to information will be ensured.

Trader’s community will be consulted before the operation against encroachments. No one will be able to keep a government vehicle without privilege in RDA.

He further stated that there is no reason to end economic zone of Ring Road Project.

Economic zone as a part of the Ring Road Project is inevitable for the settlement of new colonies and economic development. RDA Chairman added that resolving water, sewerage and health issues takes priority over the Metro Bus Project for Rawalpindi.

A subsidy of Rs6.2 million for Metro Bus Service is given daily, informed the Chairman.

He added that the dumping transfer station opposite Press Club will be abolished and this concern raised in the Punjab Assembly.

He further stated that they will try to impose non-commercial electricity tariff on WASA in order to help resolve WASA’s financial crises.

Furthermore, action will be taken against facilitators of false deeds in the institution, and matters of corruption and mismanagement will be sent to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), police and National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

There will be zero tolerance against corruption.
