Netherlands, PBIT agree to boost cooperation

They will target farming, food production and high technology

LAHORE: The Netherlands and the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) have agreed to boost cooperation in the fields of agriculture, livestock, food production methodologies, drip irrigation and high technology.



This understanding was reached during the visit of Netherlands Ambassador Ardi Stoios-Braken to the PBIT on Monday. The envoy met PBIT Chief Executive Officer Jahanzeb Burana and other senior officials who discussed avenues of cooperation between the two countries.  They talked about making investment and forming joint ventures in various sectors such as agriculture, food security, dairy, livestock and drip irrigation.

Burana emphasised the significance of Special Economic Zones in Punjab which provided investors with attractive incentives, state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities that made the province a lucrative market for investors.

Highlighting the issue of broken value chain in the farming sector, Burana said the Punjab government would welcome technical assistance of the Netherlands for the development of different sectors in order to benefit from its expertise and high technology.

The ambassador stated that close liaison must be developed between the two countries for mutual benefit, hence, both the countries should identify more mutually interesting projects for value addition.



She also mentioned the upcoming event ‘Agriculture Mission’ which would need the support, coordination and collaboration with related departments of Punjab and Pakistan. The meeting concluded with the discussion on the future plan of action to increase trade between Pakistan and the Netherlands.
