LAHORE: A legislator of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has vowed to introduce a bill, recommending death sentence for politicians who hold a public office but are found guilty of corruption.

The PTI’s Mussarat Jamshed Cheema told The Express Tribune that ‘they’ are bringing legislation to award death sentence to corrupt politicians.

“Several other countries including China awards death sentence to the politicians who are found involved in corruption. It was about time Pakistan also brought such legislation to put the country on the right track. Office bearers should protect the national exchequer rather than looting it,” she said.

She made it clear that the PTI has zero-tolerance for corruption. “Corrupt people whether they belong to the PTI, bureaucracy, judiciary and other political parties will be held accountable,” she added.

Cheema has also submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly Secretariat applauding the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for arresting Punjab former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif over his alleged involvement in Ashiyana scandal.

“The arrest of former CM is the clear evidence that independent institutions are working without any of political pressure. No one could escape when there are independent institutions in the country,” she added.
