PM Imran calls for e-governance in govt offices

Says PM Office will take lead in e-office to be followed by all the ministries

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed serious concerns over negligible progress in some important government ministries towards employing e-solutions for conducting official business. The PM Khan was chairing a briefing on Thursday on performance of the IT and Telecom Ministry.

The briefing was attended by Finance Minister Asad Umar, IT Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Law Minister Farogh Naseem, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, Adviser Dr Ishrat Hussain, Secretary IT Maroof Afzal, Secretary Privatisation Rizwan Malik and other senior officers.

The PM said he would soon chair a meeting of Digitisation Transformation Committee which could never take place since its formation. Taking ownership of the e-office initiative, he said the Prime Minister Office would take the lead towards e-office to be followed by all the ministries.



The PM also tasked Dr Ishrat Hussain to formulate a comprehensive roadmap with delineated timelines to ensure transformation towards paper-less culture in all ministries and departments.

Khan was also briefed about the mandate of the ministry, role of its various attached departments and organisations, the existing outlook of IT & telecom sector in the country and its contribution along with ways and means to capitalise the huge potential existing in the IT sector.

The IT secretary also highlighted various milestones achieved by the Ministry since its inception. Discussing the issues faced by young entrepreneurs in the IT sector, the PM directed finance minister for devising a mechanism to streamline and facilitate the IT experts in payments for their expertise.



Discussing issues related to telecom sector and license renewals, it was decided that a committee will be constituted in consultation with finance and IT ministers. The finance minister will chair the committee.

Introduction of paper-less culture in government offices and e-governance is among proposed reforms the newly elected government of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intends to introduce.
