ISLAMABAD:
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has said Combined Investigation Team (CIT) system introduced by the bureau has allowed it to benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers.

The system of CIT comprising director, additional director, investigation officer and a senior Legal Counsel has been put in place.

He said this while chairing a meeting at NAB Headquarters to review performance of NAB operations. “This will not only lend quality but also ensure that no single individual can influence the proceedings of NAB,” he further stated.

He said that corruption is a major hurdle in way of progress and prosperity depriving a deserving person of their due right.

The NAB chief also said NAB’s overall performance has remained excellent as compared to other anti-corruption organisations as figures of complaints, inquiries and investigations are almost double as compared to the same period of 2017 which shows trust enhanced upon NAB due to its “Accountability for All” policy.

He said that NAB has devised Monitoring and Evaluation System to track implementation and outputs systematically, and measure effectiveness of performance which helps in enhancing capabilities.

“Monitoring and Evaluation System provides necessary data to guide strategic planning and helps achieving results to improve current and future outputs,” mentioned the NAB chairman.

“Pakistan is considered a role model for SAARC countries in eradication of corruption due to NAB’s efforts and Pakistan is the only country whose Corruption Perception Index (CPI) has decreased from 175 to 116,” he said.

Iqbal also highlighted that Pakistan is the first chairman of SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum which is great achievement and today NAB is the only organisation of Pakistan which has established Character Building Societies of students in order to make them aware about the effects of corruption at an early age.
