During his meeting with the minister, the premier told Rasheed that pulling the locomotive industry out of the losses could prove to be an achievement of the government.
The minister pledged that he will make Pakistan Railways at par with the best rail service in the world.
Sound rail network imperative for national development: Sheikh Rasheed
On Monday, Sheikh Rasheed inaugurated a new Lahore-Faisalabad train service. The service boasts an air-conditioned parlour and an economy coach with fares that stand at Rs190, Rs400 and Rs500, respectively.
Citing debt concerns, Rasheed had also made announcements to bring down the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) investments in the railways to $6.2 billion, a move that could halt many projects relating to upgrading the organisation.
The announcement gives credence to reports Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government intends to scrutinise $62 billion infrastructure and power projects, which the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government initiated under the CPEC.
