LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has said steps are being taken to create a separate province in South Punjab.

He was speaking at separate meetings held with Punjab Assembly members belonging to Sahiwal and Multan divisions at his office on Monday.

The chief minister regretted the fact that hollow slogans were raised in the past about the development of southern Punjab. That is why, he said, people of south Punjab had rejected those who had ignored them in the last elections.

He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government would give rights to the people of South Punjab. He said the safe city project would also be launched in Multan, DG Khan, and Bahawalpur cities and south Punjab would be given preference for clean drinking water schemes.

The chief minister said that situation of cleanliness in southern Punjab districts was deplorable. Therefore, it was a responsibility of the officials concerned to make the best cleanliness arrangements in their regions. He added that the system of disposing of solid waste in a proper manner would be improved in cities.

During the meetings, a strategy about public welfare projects, development schemes and timely solution to people's problems came under discussion.

He disclosed that different steps had been taken at the upper echelons to promote good governance and austerity, along with the elimination of corruption. He made it clear that action would be taken against officers failing to follow an open-door policy under relevant rules and regulations.

The chief minister said DPOs would hold open courts on a regular basis. He added that he would regularly visit DG Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur along with his team. The assembly members presented their proposals for a solution to the problems facing the people of their constituencies.
