LAHORE: The Punjab health department will kick off ‘Nutrition Week’ from Monday (today).

Health Advisor to Punjab CM Hanif Khan Pitafi directed Integrated Reproductive, Maternal, New born and Child Health & Nutrition Programme (IRMNCH and NP) to utilise all the available resources to achieve the target set by the Punjab government.

“During the week, teams from the nutrition programme will go door-to-door, reaching more than 10 million people,” the advisor said.

The purpose of the drive is to spread awareness and to counter malnutrition within growing children. “Pregnant women will also be provided iron and folic acid tablets free-of-cost,” he stated.

‘Punjab is the largest and most populated province in the country; it plays an important role in the country’s economy. Despite this, food security and malnutrition indicators paint a dismal picture,” he expressed.
